Super Stretched Summer!

Hello CK Westbrook readers,

Since Memorial Day fell on the earliest day possible and Labor Day will on the latest, 2026 will have a super summer! As a person from Florida who loves the heat, I’m excited. Of course, I’m fortunate to have solar panels to power the AC, and I live in a place not prone to natural disasters…. yet.

Speaking of Florida, I’m so eager for The Reason to be published. It has corrupt politicians, sexy ocean fun, naïve environmentalists, deadly pollution, hot extraterrestrials, and python hunting. It’s so Florida.

Sigh, once again, cue the famous Florida singer (Tom Petty) invading my brain with his distinctive voice, “The Waiting Is the Hardest Part.” I love Petty too much for his song to ever be an earworm, but I’m extremely eager (impatient) to get a publication date.

The illustrations for Liam the Vegan are finished, and it's moving through the format phase. I’m learning so much, and thoroughly enjoying this process. This story is gentle, cute, sweet, and educational. No AI was used to create this book.

If any of you know Billie Eilish, please help me get her a copy of this book. I think she would like it.

I hope the wars end soon with as little injury and death as possible to all living things. I hope justice prevails. And I hope that AI is regulated and required to be fueled with clean, alternative energy.

When I thought I could not mistrust AI more, I read this book, Using Psychoanalysis to Understand and Address AI Bias, by Dr. Karyne Messina. I will interview Dr. Messina about the book on her podcast on the New Books Network soon and will provide a link to it. I’m sure it will be an interesting conversation.

Tragically, another dog shot a person, and this time it was not its owner. In Nebraska, a dog triggered a shotgun in a truck and a pellet hit a woman stopped at a nearby traffic light. The shot was not fatal. This topic is discussed in The Collision, and people often ask about it. I think it’s just a manifestation of the fact that too many Americans treat guns like toys, haphazardly, with little respect for the harm they cause.

MAY

In addition to reading, writing, and formatting, I saw old friends and relatives, kayaked in the Pacific Ocean with sea lions, participated in The Murph Memorial Day Challenge, and saw the Hopes and Dreams tour with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. I hope you all found some joyful distractions as well.

I can’t express my deep gratitude to my readers enough. Thank you for sharing this fantastic adventure with me!
