Welcome Autumn!

Hello CK Westbrook readers,

I hope everyone had a good summer, all things considered.

I’ve taken a break from the news and current events. I just can’t look. I’ve hit my max for mass shootings, war, unemployment, attacks on democracy, tanks, climate change and extreme weather destruction, and lies and cover-ups. I will dive back in at some point, but not now.

BEFORE THE IMPACT

The Reason, the first book in my new series, “Before The Impact,” is still moving through the publication process. It has been through QC, and we will soon work on the book cover.

I’m very excited! This series is about the lead-up to the global mass shooting on July 15, 2020.

Book Review:

I read All Systems Red by Martha Wells. It’s a fantastic science fiction novel and the first book in the Murderbot Diaries series. It’s about a cyborg created to protect humans on a research mission. The cyborg narrates the story and calls itself "Murderbot". It has developed independence from its original programming by overriding its "governor unit" and prefers watching soap operas over its security function. As it spends more time with some caring humans, it starts developing emotions that make it feel uncomfortable. The series is enormously popular, and there is a series on Apple TV; however, I want to read the series before I watch it. Books are almost always better than the movie or show.

I also read Artificial Condition, book two in the Murderbot Series, and it’s great!

I realize a Murderbot is not an alien, but there is a common trope in sci-fi where an extraterrestrial meets kind Earthlings and changes their behavior as a result. For example, Harry in Resident Alien, Rex in The Impact Series, and Superman, according to the latest film interpretation. I love this trope!
