The season of gratitude is here - and fun news!

Hello CK Westbrook readers,

The holiday season has begun. It’s a time of reflection and appreciation. A time to be thankful for family, friends, health, nature, books, and readers.

I hope everyone has a fantastic Thanksgiving!

Current Events

If you missed it, the Washington Post had a great Op-ed on November 2 about space debris, entitled Space Junk is Out of Control. It had cool pictures; I added some below. It’s an infuriating piece as it claims we learned to clean up after ourselves in kindergarten (but did we?) and need to work together to solve this problem. The writer’s solution is that the United Nations should create a treaty that will require all space agencies to clean up their debris within twenty-five years. I fear there will be a catastrophic accident before then, maybe not with the ramifications of The Collision, but bad nonetheless!

In other news, astronauts Jasmin Moghbeli and Loral O’Hara were on their first spacewalk outside of the International Space Station to perform routine maintenance on November 1 when a tool bag was "inadvertently lost,” according to a NASA blog post. Astronauts were able to see the bag on the station's cameras and determine it's not likely to collide with the ISS before it descends into Earth's orbit and disintegrates in the atmosphere.

This is not the first tool bag that has become space debris. Remember when one came down in The Collision? Do you recall who or what it landed on?

In light of the holiday season, I will refrain from writing about all the mass shootings and the latest news about assault weapons. Book Recommendation

Bridge Across the Ocean, by Jack B. Rochester, was great! There were many times when I thought "Is this true?" while reading this fascinating story. I knew very little about bicycle construction, international property espionage, how to start a business in Asia, or the Taiwan and China business relationship before I read this book. I learned a lot from reading this novel. I also enjoyed the characters and their relationships with one another. Rochester writes heartbreak extremely well and I appreciated the love interest relationship because it was an adult relationship, complex and it needed time to build. I highly recommend this book!

Halloween

I dressed as Rex for Halloween. I also spent some time in Shenandoah National Park. I love getting out to the country and hiking in nature. What do you think of my costume? (Scroll down to see pictures and see more at https://www.instagram.com/ckwestbrook.author)

Podcast fun

I was interviewed by Jesse Jackson on the Set Lusting Bruce: The Bruce Springsteen Fan Podcast. We talked about music, including disco, books, gun violence, politics, and, of course, BRUCE! It was really fun! Check it out:

Meet in person

I had a great time at the Maryland Public Television, Flea Market & Bazaar. I put together a cute reel that can be seen on my Instagram account. https://www.instagram.com/ckwestbrook.author

If you are in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, December 10, 11 am – 5 pm stop by the Mt. Pleasant Holiday Market on Mt. Pleasant Street, Washington D.C. I will be signing and selling “The Impact Series!”

 THE EATING SEASON

This can be a difficult time of year for vegans. From Halloween through New Year's Day, there are many parties and celebrations where food is a major focus. As a vegan, I know we can be challenging and to some people, frustrating and confusing, especially at the holidays. But please understand that we aim to reduce animal suffering and advocate for a more compassionate world with love and respect for all life. We practice kindness year-round and this season can be emotionally difficult for us. Please be patient and kind!
