Spring Is Sprinting By!

Hello CK Westbrook readers,

I hope you’re all having an enjoyable spring!

Hands down, it’s my favorite season. I love April in Washington, D.C. because of all the beautiful blooms including, daffodils, tulips, azaleas, dogwood trees, and my annual running of the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler. Due to climate change, the famous trees blossomed very early and they stayed longer than usual. April is also my wedding anniversary; we’ve been married for twenty-three fun-filled years! And this year, April included a spectacular partial eclipse of the sun.

In March, The Aftermath became available for pre-order, and The Shooting, The Collision, and The Judgment got new covers, which was very exciting! And I attended Awesome Con in Washington, D.C. It was a great convention and fun to talk to sci-fi readers about “The Impact Series.”

Buying Books

People often ask, where is the most helpful place to buy the books? Frankly, I make more money if they are bought from me at an event or from my publisher. Purchasing them from small bookstores is great for me (because I love bookstores) and local economies and communities. Purchasing from Amazon is also helpful because Amazon controls 80% of book distribution in the U.S., and buying from them influences the algorithms that get my books in front of potential readers.

So, I think the best place to buy them is wherever makes you happy!

EVENTS

Last weekend, I attended the Tombs and Tomes Book Festival at the Historic Congressional Cemetery, which is a lovely cemetery. I have always thought I wanted to be cremated and have my ashes spread in a few places. But after spending the day in that cemetery, maybe a “green burial” there would be cool. Hopefully, I have plenty of time to decide.

At the cemetery, I also met an astrophysicist space environmentalist who is working to inform the public and Congress regarding the dangers of space debris (be still my heart). She looked at my banner and asked “Is that space debris?” She was very excited to hear about “The Impact Series.” I can’t wait to hear what she thinks of the books!

Next up, I will be doing some podcasts and signing and selling at Barnes & Noble on June 8 in Ashburn, VA. More details soon!

BOOK REVIEW

I recently attended a friend's book launch event. Heather White’s “60 Days to a Greener Life” Ease Eco-Anxiety Through Joyful Action is a great guide to being a better, happier, environmentalist. As you know, Kate wants people to take meaningful action and stop polluting Earth and space. I think Kate would love this list and probably would have given this book to everyone who signed the pledge.

CURRENT EVENTS

It’s been twenty years since the infamous Columbine school shooting, and there have been 400 school shootings since that tragic event, with more than 370,000 students having experienced gun violence at school since 1999. It’s been confirmed that NASA is responsible for the space debris that fell through a Florida man's roof. The garbage was from the International Space Station.
