Summer is coming to an end - what have you read?

Hello CK Westbrook readers,

We are in the last few days of summer, with Labor Day just around the corner. It has been an exciting and tragic summer in so many ways. Worldwide, extreme weather has touched most people, either directly or indirectly. I do hope my readers have stayed safe and managed to get some rest and relaxation.

I also hope you got to read - because it’s one of life’s greatest pleasures. It’s also a healthy escape from stress.

I read The Midnight Library, by Matt Haig. It was really good. It’s about regret and the importance of choices and decisions and their impacts on life. I have a large stack of TBR (to-be-read) books that I will get to as time allows. I would love to go into the woods, away from my work and house, for a month and just read! I wonder if my readers feel the same.

I did have a lot of fun this summer. I saw Barbie and loved it. I highly recommend it. I visited fantastic museums, hiked with friends, and saw some great concerts, including Pink, Sum 41, and The Offspring. I also went whale watching in Massachusetts and saw three Humpbacks, a mother, baby, and friend, play, eat, and sleep. It was spectacular. As Kate would say, I don’t want to live in a world without whales.

We need to do more to stop the biodiversity extinction crisis and to protect the Endangered Species Act, especially as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. We need nature more than it needs us. I recommend these organizations if you want to get involved.
