Hi CK Westbrook readers,

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a happy and healthy holiday season.

After two years of mostly secluded holidays, it was very busy and fun for us. I spent my birthday in New York City with friends and family. Celebrated Christmas in Maryland with family and went hiking and playing near Shenandoah National Park with friends for New Year’s Eve weekend. Of course, The Shooting and The Collision joined us!

In December, I enjoyed two artistic experiences that I highly recommend, seeing Hadestown, the musical, by Anais Mitchell, and reading The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead. Both were fantastic and haunting and I can’t stop thinking about them. They dive into intense and relevant themes like violence, immigration, racism, environmental abuse, greed, and love, and the stories are told through the eyes of an enslaved girl and interactions with Greek gods. Bravo.

And just like that, the holidays ended and it became January 2023.

In response to too much fun in 2022, I decided to cut my liver a break and do a “Dry January.” I would say “try” as I had no idea if I would succeed (still don’t as it’s not over yet), but to “try” violates the Yoda rule. As of the writing of this newsletter, I’m still dry and very much looking forward to a pinot noir in early February to celebrate this accomplishment!

I will also celebrate my freedom from my brief sobriety by being a guest author on the Drinking with Authors Podcast in February! I will let you know when and how to listen and/or watch. We will discuss The Impact Series over drinks and I have a feeling it might get crazy.
